Mothers Day Cake

Simnel cakes were orginally a gift for Mother's day. Girls working in service had one day off a year. Their day off was Mothering Sunday and they were often allowed to bake a cake to take home to their mother which became known as the Simnel Cake.
Our Simnel Cake comes decorated with the traditional marzipan balls and some pretty sugar flowers.
